Today, on International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, we were honoured to welcome Sofia Calltorp, Director of UN Women Geneva and Chief of Humanitarian Action to the GICHD office for a productive discussion with our Director, Tobias Privitelli. This meeting reaffirmed our strong partnership and commitment to advancing gender equality within mine action and ammunition management. Key topics included the evolving challenges to gender equality, strategies for strengthening synergies between Women, Peace & Security (#WPS) and mine action and ammunition management, and opportunities for future collaboration. With a shared vision, we continue to work towards integrating gender perspectives into policies, programs, and operations—ensuring that mine action contributes to a more inclusive and equitable world. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with UN Women through joint initiatives at global, regional, and national levels. #IMAD2025

Every year, landmines and explosive ordnance threaten lives, block access to life-saving services, and prevent communities from rebuilding after conflict. Mine action changes that! Clearing mines and explosive ordnance opens the door to education, agriculture, and economic recovery. Safe journeys to school, land restored for farming, and families returning home.
